The Government of Navarra, through the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (NAIR Center) Foundation, and the Public University of Navarra (UPNA) have signed a collaboration agreement to promote the shared use of services and infrastructure and joint research in this cutting-edge technology. The agreement also provides for knowledge transfer and the attraction, training and development of talent in Artificial Intelligence, with the aim of achieving “the maximum impact in the activities that both entities carry out in this field of research”, as set out in the document signed by the Regional Minister for University, Innovation and Digital Transformation, Juan Cruz Cigudosa, and the Rector of UPNA, Ramón Gonzalo. The initiative will be valid for four years and may be renewed and, according to its promoters, “represents a further step in collaboration between UPNA and NAIR Center in the field of research in Artificial Intelligence”.
“This agreement represents a further step in collaboration between UPNA and NAIR Center in the field of Artificial Intelligence,” its promoters stated.
Among the fundamental aspects regulated by the document is the joint participation of research staff from both entities in research projects and activities. To facilitate this collaboration, the role of UPNA collaborating research staff at NAIR Center has been created. An authorisation procedure has also been established to determine which university researchers may carry out their activity and within which specific projects or lines of work.
Finally, with regard to talent, both organisations undertake to work together to attract and train new talent in the field of Artificial Intelligence. Joint development will also be encouraged of Final Degree Projects (TFG) and Master’s Theses (TFM), industrial doctoral theses, courses, seminars, conferences and other activities related to NAIR Center’s areas of activity.
The agreement also regulates access to research-support services and technology platforms for staff of NAIR Center and UPNA, and provides that, in order to optimise available resources, both institutions will seek to coordinate the purchase of major scientific-technical instrumentation, ensuring that this complements the equipment available in existing laboratories.
Lastly, the agreement has established a monitoring committee composed of representatives of both entities, acting as a joint parity committee. It will be responsible for maintaining ongoing communication and sharing relevant information in relation to collaborating staff and other activities envisaged in the document signed by Cigudosa and Gonzalo.
